Janine de Peyer

Janine de Peyer is an associate of The Reilly International Group Corporate Crisis Management Team. As a Certified Psychotherapist and Psychoanalyst, she has extensive experience as a mental health and substance abuse expert specializing in trauma and family interventions.  

Ms. de Peyer has completed Level II Training in Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR), a trauma treatment modality that integrates elements of effective psychotherapies including psychodynamic, cognitive behavioral, interpersonal, experiential, and body-centered therapies in structured protocols that are designed to maximize treatment effects. After EMDR treatment, clients generally report that the emotional distress related to memory was eliminated or greatly decreased, and that they have gained important cognitive insights. Importantly, these emotional and cognitive changes usually result in spontaneous behavioral and personal change, which are further enhanced with standard EMDR procedures.

In 1983, Ms. de Peyer founded CO-ANON FAMILY GROUPS, a 12 Step self-help program for families and associates of cocaine abusers. She served as Chairman of its Board of Trustees from 1983 through 1988. In New York City, Ms. de Peyer was an Addiction Counselor from 1987 through 1989 at the Washton Institute; practiced psychotherapy as a Licensed Clinical Social Worker from 1989 through 1990 at the Jewish Board of Family & Children’s Services; and conducted individual, family, and group psychotherapy from 1990 through 1993 at the Smithers Alcoholism Treatment Center, where she ran the Smithers Family Intervention Program.  

Since 1993, Ms. de Peyer has been in private practice in New York City treating adults, couples, and groups in Psychotherapy and Psychoanalysis, specializing in substance abuse and trauma.  Ms. de Peyer is Assistant Editor and contributing author to Psychoanalytic Dialogues: A Journal of Relational Perspectives.  She is also published in Alcoholism Quarterly, Haworth Press.
